Humble beginnings in public housing in Kalihi shaped Augie Tulba’s work ethic and continue to inspire his commitment to our community. The grandson of Sakada Filipino immigrants, a Kauai born Portuguese grandmother and a grandfather from Georgia, his father Lawrence was a City & County employee and mother, Sharon, worked in the Hawai‘i public school system.

Augie is a proud graduate of Farrington High School, and furthered his education through professional development offered by Kapi‘olani Medical Center, where he worked for 16 years.

Augie’s professional career has spanned largest industries in Hawai‘i: service, hospitality, health care, and public service. He has worked as a newspaper boy, lei greeter, sushi and donut delivery boy, fast food cashier, wine store delivery man, and in laundry, facilities, food service, and as a mailroom supervisor at Kapi‘olani Medical Center before pursuing a career in entertainment full-time.

Augie has been at the core of local comedy since he began performing stand-up for audiences in Hawai‘i and across the United States more than two decades ago. Over the course of his career, he has written, directed, and starred in seven stand-up comedy DVDs and three CDs. Augie’s comedy work has been recognized as the best comedy show by Honolulu Magazine, topped the DVD sales chart, and won two Hawai‘i Music Awards as well as two Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards.

He has worked as a radio show host, including a popular morning show that simulcast on multiple Hawaiian Islands produced at his home. Most recently on the Augie Radio Show, a top-rated weekday morning shows on Da Paʻina (93.1 FM O‘ahu, 95.9 FM Kauai, and online).

Augie’s recognitions include being named one of Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40; funniest comic in Hawai‘i by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Midweek; best radio personality by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser; and one of Hawai‘i’s Top 100 Influential Filipinos.

Over 1 million viewers weekly watched Augie and Guy Hagi on Hawai‘i News Now’s “Cheap Eats,” on air and online. He has also appeared on multiple episodes of Hawai‘i Five-0, Baywatch Hawai‘i, and Jun Ken Po (Hawai‘i’s first TV game show). Recently, he has appeared in films including A Midsummer Hawaiian Dream and Kuleana. He also produced and directed six seasons of Augie TV which aired on OC16, KFVE, and online on-demand.

Beyond entertainment, Augie and his wife Kimberly serve as Directors of the Miss American Scholar Hawaii Pageant, empowering young women and offering scholarships for further education. Augie’s public service included work in the administrations of Hawai‘i County Mayor Billy Kenoi and Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, where he led youth outreach initiatives around Hawai‘i Island and statewide.

Inspired by his upbringing and his daughter Mahealani Sims-Tulba’s passion for community service, Augie works tirelessly with various organizations and initiatives. Mahea’s BRAVE Hawai‘i foundation brings Augie’s positive messages about respect, goals, and the value of hard work to students statewide. He has participated in countless events and fundraisers for non-profits across the state, including the Children’s Miracle Network, DARE, Fisher House, Special Olympics Hawai‘i, and Lt. Governor Tsutsui’s REACH. He has also delivered keynote addresses on anti-bullying, dyslexia, mental health, and suicide prevention.

Augie is married to Kimberly Tulba and is the proud father of Augusto Tulba Jr., Malia Mendigorin, Tajh Tulba, Kyle Fraser, and Mahealani Sims-Tulba. He has been a resident of ‘Ewa Beach since 2000.
